Ten Steps to Choosing an Advertising Agency
1. Develop a list of potential agencies. Ask colleagues for referrals for local advertising companies they have used and have liked. Search online. Review yellow pages, professional associations, and other sources relevant to your industry. 2. Research each ad agency and gather information about their unique strengths, experiences, portfolio, location, staff, core competencies, creative abilities, etc
3. Develop your request for proposal (RFP) outlining exactly what you need in your campaign, the timeline, and budget.
4. Contact each agency and feel them out. If the first contact with the vancouver ad agency is favorable, tell them you’d like to include them in your RFP process. This allows agencies to back out if they’re busy or not interested and it allows you to cross off agencies
that just don’t feel right.
5. Send out the RFPs to the participating agencies and make yourself available to answer questions. Set a deadline for receiving RFP responses.
6. Evaluate the RFP responses. Cut your list down to 3-4 of the best agencies by looking at experience, fit with your company, experience, philosophy, approach, company size, quality of work, creativity. Most imporantly you should like them and be able to communicate openly with them.
7. Arrange to meet with the finalists. Have each agency present their own abilities and sell themselves to you.
8. Make your decision with your selection team. Make pros and cons lists. Pick the company you have good chemistry with.
9. Inform the finalists of the results with a phone call, starting with the agencies that did not get the job. Explain the reasoning behind your decision and praise their strengths.
10. Call the winning ad agency and give them the good news.
